In the early stages, pulmonary hypertension may have no noticeable symptoms. Symptoms may take months or years to become noticeable.
Symptoms of pulmonary hypertension include:
- Shortness of breath during normal activities such as climbing stairs or doing yardwork
 - Tiredness or fatigue
 - Heart palpitations
 
As pulmonary hypertension becomes worse, you will likely find it difficult to perform any physical activity at all.
At this stage, symptoms may include:
- Fainting
 - Feeling of lightheadedness, particularly during physical activity
 - Swelling in the ankles and legs
 - Blue color to your lips and skin
 - Chest pain
 - Unable to lie flat
