About Me
I specialize in the expert care of injuries and issues with the musculoskeletal system affecting both children and adults. These include sports injuries and accidents as well as managing treatment of long term problems such as arthritis.
I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Boston College and graduated with high honors before embarking on a one year tour with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. This gave me the opportunity to work with a non-profit organization providing transitional housing to homeless families with children. Georgetown University School of Medicine and a vigorous five year orthopaedic surgery residency at Boston Medical Center followed. After graduating as chief resident in 2002, I became a recognized Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and have been practicing in Philadelphia since then.
My primary goals of treatment for the orthopaedic patient are the relief of pain and the restoration of function. I utilize both surgical and non-surgical techniques to achieve these goals, involving the patient in the decision making process.
Patient Comments
Provider was very good, she listen to my questions and answer every one of them.
A very good visit
Was right about knee filled with blood, got it out, told me what to do and how to ease pain
Doctor Desmond explained what he was going to do, why he proceeded the way he did, the benefits of the procedure and the future outlook. He also took the time to discuss another problem that was caused by my injury
I liked the fact that I was able to say what my concerns were and what type of treatments I could possibly have. Dr. Desmond's answers were reassuring that I didn't have to jump to a dramatic treatment at first. He also gave eye contact like I was a real person and not just another medical record number.
